#223: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending March 14.
|
Apex squinting.
Hello, issue #223 of Switch Weekly here, with your update on the week in Nintendo. So, this week saw the release of battle royale hit Apex Legends on the Switch . I’ve played a fair bit of it over the last few days ( after making space for the hefty 18GB download). If you’re an Apex fan already, this port isn’t going to have much appeal. However for those of you who only game on their Switch and really want to see what the fuss is about, its a servicable port, with a few cavets. You’ll definitely want to play with cross-play turned off, as otherwise you’re very much at a disadvantage going up against those with higher fidelity on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The draw distance in particular was bad, making spotting enemies in the distance tough. If you can play this elsewhere, do — as although it works, it’s clear a lot of sacrifices were made to make it a reality. It’s been interesting seeing the response to this one, as up until this point any ambitious ports to the Switch (such as Doom) have been generally well received — it’s clearly becoming an ever increasingly tough challenge to get the more demanding games running well on Nintendo’s machine. I’m sure a Pro Switch could help here. 😉 Your move Nintendo. Last week I noted that Crash 4 was landing on the Switch, and it looks like a solid port, however although getting a physical release Stateside, it appears to be a digital release here in Europe for now , which is curious. Seems like the sorta game that would do fine physically, so why the euro-omission I wonder? This week we’ve got 25 games hitting the eShop , including Stubbs the Zombie, a new RBI Baseball, and a rare release from Electronic Arts in Plants vs Zombies. Full list is below. I’m making good progress on the State of Switch survey results, and should have the results with you next weekend – so keep an eye out for that. Also, a big thanks to all those who chipped in and bought me a coffee last week — I really appreciate it.
Have a great week.
