#248: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending September 12.
|
WAH. Hi, here’s issue # 248 of Switch Weekly with your Nintendo round-up. 👋 So, I took a break last week and have been pretty much offline for most of it — it’s been fun to come back refreshed to catch up on all the highlights to share here with you. Seems like a lot of chatter and hot air about a potential upcoming NIntendo Direct, but nothing materilising just yet. I guess if we’re basing things on past behaviour ( which is never a good idea ) we are about due one soon. 😅 Keep your eyes peeled. Next week sees 25 games coming to the Switch, including Cruis’n Blast, Eastward, and The Prince’s Edition of Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. As ever, the full list is below for you to check out. Many thanks to my patrons for their continued support, and to all of those who bought me a coffee recently — your support means so much .
Cheers,
🎮 Currently Playing — WarioWare: Get It Together, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, The Flame in the Flood REVIEW WarioWare: Get It Together is the ultimate Switch party game — Plenty of positive reviews for this new slice of silly Wario fun. It’s described here as leaning into its own ridiculousness resulting in ” an ambitious entry that successfully pushes the series into new territory “. Sam Machkovech, writing for Ars Technica however said this new entry was somewhat ” lukewarm “, reccomending you rent it over buying a copy. Ryan Gilliam, writing at Polygon , notes that the complexity added takes away from what makes the series great. Andy Robinson at VGC concluded that Get It Together is ” arguably a better multiplayer game than a solo one “. For what it’s worth, I’m having a real blast with it, but will admit that the new character switching dynamic, whilst neat, isn’t an outright home run of an addition. Alyse Stanley // Launcher (The Washington Post) ‘I was institutionalized as a teen, and Wario was my only friend’ Cass Marshall // Polygon REVIEW Baldo: The Guardian Owls — This beautiful looking Ghibli-esque adventure looks the part, but seemingly falls short everywhere else: ” an excruciatingly frustrating game filled with bad design choices, clunky combat and traversal, a terrible UI and map and instant, unfair death waiting around every corner […] this is one adventure you’d do well to avoid taking ” . PJ O’Reilly // Nintendo Life Platinum wants to bring Star Fox Zero to Switch — Platinum’s studio head Atsushi Inaba, speaking to VGC, has said that if Nintendo was interested, the developer would “ definitely ” be interested in considering a new version of Zero. I never played it on Wii U, so I’m all for it. Andy Robinson // VGC Game Boy titles might be headed to Nintendo Switch Online 👀 Bryant Francis // Game Developer Sonic Colors Ultimate launch bugs and crashes are being ‘assessed’, with a patch coming — Big yikes on these bugs. Chris Scullion // VGC REVIEW Road 96 — ” a journey worth taking, but unless you’re willing to put up with its shortcomings, it’s one that I’d recommend you play elsewhere ” . Chirag Pattni // Nintendo Enthusiast REVIEW Everhood — A glowing review for this seemingly quirky and odd ” creative and inventive ” rhythm-based indie, described here as ” a jaw-dropping, mind-bending, audiovisual spectacle like nothing else, […] a perfect reminder of everything indie devs contribute to gaming and why we should support them however we can “. Jay Rooney // Level Up Media REVIEW PowerA Spectra Enhanced Wired Controller John Friscia // Nintendo Enthusiast REVIEW Key We Ryan Janes // Nintendo Insider ICYMI REVIEW Button City Chris Brandrick // Switch Weekly Stardew Valley is my favourite game I’ll never play Cian Maher // The Gamer Mario Kart 9 should become more of a ‘Nintendo Kart’ James Troughton // The Gamer Nintendo should bring the 2D Metroid games to Switch before Dread Ben Lamoreux // Nintendo Enthusiast Animal Crossing: New Horizons museum exhibit finds the personal amid the pandemic — An exhibition at the UK’s National Videogame Museum looks to explore the impact New Horizons had on players during what was the then start of a global pandemic.
