Nintendo, The Pokemon Company sue Palworld-maker Pocketpair — Nintendo took their time here (having started an investigation in January), but have now taken initial action against Pocketpair for their ‘ Pokemon with guns ‘ game. I was surprised to see it wasn’t straight up IP action, rather Nintendo are taking a patent-based approach to the legal battle. There’s confidence for Nintendo here , but it is an odd wrinkle of sorts that Nintendo are essentially claiming ownership of ” the concept of dog fights for little monsters ”. Kyle Orland // Ars Technica ‘Cold-blooded business’: Nintendo is patent trolling Palworld because it got too big — An industry analyst explains why Nintendo is going after Palworld, and why it’s probably going to win. Emanuel Maiberg // 404 Media Nintendo’s Pokémon patents may shed light on the Palworld lawsuit Nicole Carpenter // Polygon These leaked Switch 2 renders are boring enough to be believable — Whether they are real is one thing, but based on what we know so far I wager these are boring enough to get a pass at being probable. Interesting to see bigger SL / SR buttons on the Joy-Con, amongst other changes . This Chinese YouTuber had a go at 3D printing one based off the CAD files. Chris Brandrick // overkill REVIEW The Plucky Squire loses the plot as it pops off the page — “This well-crafted adventure can’t fulfill its charming premise” Oli Welsh // Polygon Zelda-inspired Plucky Squire shows what happens when a game doesn’t trust its players — For all it’s charm, it is a touch hand-holdy yes. Moises Taveras // Kotaku REVIEW UFO 50 is the best retro-gaming homage I’ve ever played — In fact, the praise for this is glowing across the board. Kyle Orland // Ars Technica Nintendo is entering a very different landscape with the Switch successor Trone Dowd // Inverse REVIEW Castlevania Dominus Collection — ” we aren’t hurting for Metroidvanias on the eShop, the ones on offer here are among the finest in the genre and are all well worth the time it takes to go through them “. Jordan Rudek // Nintendo World Report ▶ REVIEW Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines — I enjoyed the first game, so to see this described as the “perfect sequel” is good news. Source Gaming // YouTube Please don’t let the dogs with grappling hooks game die Chris Plante // Polygon REVIEW The Karate Kid: Street Rumble — ” For those who enjoy the Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai TV series, there’s fun to be had with this “. Tom Massey // Nintendo Life I have tried to stop playing Wild Bastards, and found I simply cannot Luke Plunkett // Aftermath 5 years later, Sayonara Wild Hearts gains more significance with each revisit Diego Nicolás Argüello // Gamespot Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has made a long-awaited comeback – here’s why that’s such a big deal Andi Hamilton // GamesRadar Three reasons Super Mario Galaxy tops Astro Bot (and one reason it doesn’t) Jordan Minor // PC Mag Astro Bot’s soulless devotion to the Sony brand is a real problem Yes, not a Nintendo piece, but I figured the thoughts here on the ‘corporate core’ of Astro Bot may arouse some interest. Cole Kronman // Kotaku Cheap money and bad bets: How the games industry turned pandemic success into disaster Mike Futter // gamesindustry ▶ Nintendo lawyers vs Pokemon fan games — I shared this last week, but owing to the news that broke this week, it feels apt to share again.
