REVIEW Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Samus Aran is suited up for action again. Was it worth the 18-year wait? — “I might have been disappointed by Metroid Prime 4 if it had come out in 2010. But now, after such a long break, I’m happy to return to this anachronistic way of playing: slow, laborious, sometimes annoying. It’s a reunion tour rather than a revival for the Metroid Prime series: some of the new material doesn’t hit but the classic stuff is still just as great as ever“. Other reviews worth reading include this glowing take from Dan Ryckert at Giant Bomb, and this more critical assessment from Andy Robinson at VGC. I’m pleased to see an option to increase the volume on the ever-so-awesome soundtrack. Victoria Phillips Kennedy // Eurogamer.net Creator of hit game Shovel Knight is at a ‘make or break’ moment — The fate of independent studio Yacht Club Games (creator of Shovel Knight) rests on its next title: Mina the Hollower. Despite their mobile origins, these titles feel tailor-made for Switch and the devs have fully embraced the console’s feature set“. Nathan Lockard // Nintendo Life Why do Gen Z have a growing appetite for retro tech? — There’s nothing Nintendo related here, but hey, maybe it’s just nice to have tech that invites you to not only unplug, but also just works without subscriptions, tracking, etc. Ryley Bowman // BBC News
