Mario & Wario

Mario & Wario is on Nintendo Switch Online, complete with mouse controls

Mario & Wario is one of those titles that I tend to confuse with the likes of Yoshi’s Cookie and Wario’s Woods — relatively obscure mid 90s Nintendo fare that uses their big characters in otherwise odd ways.

Well, before today, this one never saw a release outside of Japan. As for why that is I’m unsure, but it’s one of a small handful of Super Famicom games that make use of the Mouse accessory. Another little tidbit for you, is that this 1993 puzzle-platformer was developed by Game Freak before they found huge success with Pokemon.

Anyway, I took the game for spin on the Switch 2 Nintendo Switch Online SNES library, trying the mouse mode.

The game seems…fine. But the mouse controls don’t seem quite right. I don’t know if that’s just an issue with the emulation on offer here or something else, but it turns out I wasn’t the only one to notice this.

If you’re keen to try more mouse mode stuff on Switch 2 then this is worth a look, as a little curio of 90s Japan-only Nintendo stuff if nothing else.
