Platypus Reclayed

This all clay shoot ’em up is a handmade joy

During another of my weekly crawls through the always sizeable list of upcoming eShop releases, I happened upon Platypus Reclayed — it’s a horizontal shooter with a visual style that immediately caught my eye. Everything you see in the game was made with actual, real clay, including your ship, the enemies, backgrounds, and more.

Turns out this is actually a remake of a PC game released in the early 2000s during the Windows XP era. Platypus has now been spruced up with this new ‘Reclayed’ edition, and is reaching a new audience on consoles for the first time, some 22 years later.

I took the game for a spin in this ‘first look’ video. You can take a look here:

Now, as is obvious from the video I’m not a natural ace at shoot ’em ups, but I had a blast all the same. This is my first stab at one of these ‘Let’s Play’ videos so I’m sure everyone will be kind in the comments. 😅

Another neat (to me at least) detail about this game: it’s made here in the UK, in Sheffield — which is about an hour up the road from me.

The game is out now, and should set you back about $15/€15 (or around £13 for me here in the UK).
