#133: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending June 9.
|
Get the Animal Crossing summoning circle ready.
Hey, issue #133 of Switch Weekly here, with your pre-E3 digest of Nintendo news. Alrighty, so this week we got an extended look at the upcoming Pokemon games by way of a Direct. The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara kicked off the well rounded presentation ( although I thought his choice of on-screen gadgets was a little curious ). Anyway, I was a little dissapointed with last year’s Let’s Go games, and it seems like these titles will strike a more appealing balance. If you missed it, I’ve linked the video in the issue below. It’s really looking good. Other than that we’re now firmly in E3 territory, with plenty of announcements already springing up. I’ve linked to the good stuff below. Oh, and I made a dumb little video of what I want Nintendo to do this E3 (spoiler: add music to the eShop you cowards ). 😉 Nintendo’s E3 presentation takes place on Tuesday June 11 in LA, and I’ve provided a list of time zones below. If you miss any of this, or prefer to catch up at your leisure then hey, I’ll be here with a full round-up of all the big Nintendo E3 news next Sunday . Very few games hitting the eShop next week. I’m guessing folks don’t think E3 week is a good time to release a game — the attention is elsewhere .
Thanks for reading,
▶ Pokemon Sword & Shield Direct — This presentation aired earlier this week, catch up here if you missed it. The 15-minute video introduces new Pokemon (including the cool looking Corviknight), gave us a glimpse at new legendaries, and highlighted new modes, including co-op raid battles and a free roaming “wild area”. It’s out November 15th. Nintendo // YouTube E3 Classics: Nintendo’s biggest E3 triumphs — A run through of some classic E3 Nintendo moments, including that Twilight Princess reveal. Chris Scullion // VGC Animal Crossing’s playable absence at E3 2019 is no concern — Nintendo pre-announced what games would be playable on the showfloor at E3. Animal Crossing wasn’t on the list, so naturally the internet freaked out — but its absence is by no means proof of a delay. No need to panic….yet. Neal Ronaghan // Nintendo World Report EA explains FIFA 2020’s “Legacy” version for Nintendo Switch — The support EA has given the Switch has been lacking to say the least, and this trend seemingly continues with the next FIFA release. The 2020 version for Nintendo’s hybrid won’t get a range of new features, in fact it’s paired back enough that they’re calling it a ‘Legacy’ version. FIFA 20 executive producer Aaron McHardy explains exactly what this means for Nintendo fans in this article. (It’s kinda crazy to me that EA were on stage pledging support back at the original Switch reveal, yet here we are — sigh. I bought FIFA 19 for the Switch, but this is a hard pass.) Tom Philips // Eurogamer ▶ Rant: EA should be embarrased of FIFA 20 on Nintendo Switch GoNintendo // YouTube Leak reveals ‘Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch’ port is Switch bound John Friscia // Nintendo Enthusiast Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a sequel for all side-scrolling lovers Zoe Delahunty-Light // GamesRadar
