#136: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending June 30.

No Kaizo blocks here.
Yo, issue #136 of Switch Weekly here, with the week in Nintendo news. The big release this past week was of course Super Mario Maker 2 – it’s reviewed well, and I’ve put together a video with some choice quotes if you’re still on the fence ( subscribe to Switch Weekly on YouTube if you haven’t yet) . But the takeaway is this, whether a creator or player, and a fan of Mario – get it, as you’ll not be short on things to do. I’m looking to share a few of your Mario Maker levels in an upcoming issue, so if you’ve got the game and fancy sharing your creations with the Switch Weekly community (over 5,000 strong now!) then either reply to this tweet or just reply to this email. I’ll share some highlights in a future issue! Not a huge amount of games hitting the eshop next week. Anyway, on to the issue!
Thanks for taking the time out to read this – catch you next week,
REVIEW Super Mario Maker 2 — Nintendo’s sequel offers a more dynamic package than the original — “A surprising and enjoyable Mario classic in the making, with plenty to offer creators and non-creators alike” . This alternative review from Chris Scullion is also worth your time. Andy Robinson // VGC ▶ What the critics think: Super Mario Maker 2 — A review round-up from yours truly. I pull together key quotes from several reviews of Nintendo’s new DIY Mario builder. Switch Weekly // YouTube Mario Maker 2 online multiplayer is laggy, too basic, and tons of fun — I’ve yet to try to the online multiplayer modes yet, but it sounds par for the course: ” it’s exactly what you’d expect from Nintendo: The tech kinda sucks, the implementation is extremely bare-bones, and despite all of that, it’s a lot of fun. ” Chris Kohler // Kotaku ▶ Bloodstained is brilliant – but what’s up with the Switch port? — The recently released ‘Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’ has been highly praised, yet the Switch version has seen several game breaking issues. A patch is said to be on the way. Digital Foundry // YouTube REVIEW Devil May Cry — “In 2019, the primordial Devil May Cry may be more frustrating than fun, but what it lacks in comfort it corrects with prestige.” . Eric Layman // Digital Chumps REVIEW Dandy Dungeon — “a great dungeon-crawler with a very funny script.” Rich Stanton // Kotaku ▶ The next Switch: Tegra X1 ‘Mariko’ – What is it and what can it do? — The Switch is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra X1 chip — here Rich Leadbetter runs through plenty of evidence as to what the silicon in any new potential hardware revisions may offer. Digital Foundry // YouTube Nintendo considering extending Switch Online library beyond NES — Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said: ” we are thinking about providing an extension of the online service which is currently providing Famicom [NES] software ” — yes please. Andy Robinson // VGC A message for Pokemon video game fans (Official statement about limiting Sword And Shield’s Pokédex) Junichi Masuda // Pokemon
No one is talking about how funny Luigi’s Mansion 3 is
Android on Nintendo Switch is more promising than you’d think
INTERVIEW Aonuma on Breath of the Wild sequel & Link’s Awakening remake — At E3 2019 IGN interviewed Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma about the just-announced Breath of the Wild sequel, the upcoming Link’s Awakening remake, and other Zelda topics.
