#138: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending July 14.

A Lite Addition.
👋 Hi, here’s your roundup of the week in Nintendo news — issue #138 of Switch Weekly . The Switch platform entered a new era this week. We knew new hardware was on the cards — rumours have been pointing to both a smaller and ‘pro’ model for several months. But now, the first half of that story is laid bare as a reality: the Switch Lite is a revised Nintendo Switch machine, and it’s coming real soon ( September 20 ). It offers an ultra-portable version of the original console that’s noticeably smaller . The big difference is its lack of removable Joy-Con. It’s great to see the line-up being diversified with a lower cost model that removes certain features, just like the 2DS did, however, it’s something of a shame to see fragmentation of sorts – as these new models can’t play all games. Either way, I think this is going to prove to be a great option for kids (and those who pretty much play exclusively in handheld mode) — for the most part the compromises made here make sense for a large majority of the intended audience. When you have both this and Pokemon dropping, it’s going to be a great combo for many, and it is no doubt going to do great . If you’re planning on gifting this for Christmas, I’d buy early!
Thinking of getting the Switch Lite?

A couple of other points regarding this new model: I love that Nintendo put a proper D-Pad on this slimmed down model, something I’d love to have (in an official capacity) on the ‘big boy’ Switch. Oh and finally, as this model can’t play on the TV, it’s somewhat amusing to me that this Switch, can’t…..switch. Anyway, I’ve got a few more Mario Maker levels for you to check out at the end of the issue, along with all the usual news, reviews and upcoming games ( Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 being the highlight! ). Thanks for reading!
Cheers,
