#161: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending December 22.
|
Chapter complete.
👋 Hi , issue #161 of Switch Weekly here, with the Nintendo things you need to know. Well, here we are. 2019 is drawing to a close, and as you might expect it’s a quieter week in all things Switch as folks wrap up for the holidays. Plenty of Game of the Year articles are popping up across the gaming media, singing the praises of gaming in 2019. Maybe a Switch Weekly end of year round up of readers favourite games is something I should think about for next year. Food for thought, but in the mean time — I’d love if you could let me know your favourite Switch games of the year, just hit reply . Next week we have a ton of indie games (over 20) hitting the eShop, all trying to get eyeballs on ’em during the holidays. I’ve linked them all up below for you to check out. As for me, this is the last issue of Switch Weekly this year ( and this decade ), as I’ll be taking a break next week. As such I just want to take this opportunity to thank you for reading Switch Weekly in 2019 — I hope it’s proven useful! If you’re celebrating Christmas I hope you have a good one. I’ll be back on January 5th with the first issue of. 2020. See you then!
Thanks,
Nintendo Switch Year In Review — You may have seen folks sharing their stats online this week: If you’re in the U.S. or Canada you can now get an end of year report from Nintendo detailing how many hours you spent playing your Switch, what games you played the most, and more. Unsure why this isn’t available for me here in the U.K. – Nintendo playing it safe due to GDPR perhaps? 😅 Nintendo The Nintendo eShop is having a big sale on Nintendo Switch games — This is a big one, with over 700 ( yes, really ) games on sale for the festive period. Julia Lee // Polygon REVIEW Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training — A late 2019 release in Japan, Brain Training returns elsewhere in early 2020. I’ll no doubt share a review of this again in the new year, but here’s what Rob Leane of Den of Geek had to say about this return for Kawashima: ” an enjoyable slice of mind-bothering fun ” it’s ” exactly what you’d expect from a Switch version”, “It remains reverent to the original at the same time as trying some new things “. Rob Leane // Den of Geek REVIEW Shovel Knight: Showdown — ” it’s Super Smash Bros: Shovel Knight edition “. Ben Szabadics // Vooks REVIEW Football Manager 2020 Touch — ” Football Manager on Switch has been a bit like the Arsenal squad this season: there’s clearly some top quality in there but for some reason, it just doesn’t come together and work in a cohesive, seamless manner “. Chris Scullion // Nintendo Life Nintendo shares spooky new details about the multiplayer DLC coming to Luigi’s Mansion 3 — Two DLC packs are on the way next year, one in April, and another in late July. I’d argue it’s fair to question just how active of a player base the game will have by then though? Liam Doolan // Nintendo Life The 35 best Nintendo Switch games every gamer should own — If you know someone getting a Switch for the holidays this is a great list to share for those looking to build up a library of must haves. Rik Henderson // Pocket Lint Meet the Pokémon fans who send hundreds of rare monsters to kids on Christmas Day Ben Sledge // Eurogamer ▶ LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Sizzle Trailer — Nine films in one game, talk about value. Of course, this weekly email is, and always will be, free for everyone. But in order to keep Switch Weekly sustainable and accessible to all, I’m now offering a Patreon ( link below ) to help cover running costs and keep things ticking over for those in a position to support what I’m doing here. I’ll keep reminders like this infrequent, but if you can support the newsletter ( for as little as a dollar ) I’d hugely appreciate it.
Chris ☺️
