#162: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending January 5.
|
Animal Crossing is out this year.
👋 Hey , here’s issue #162 of Switch Weekly, the very first of 2020 , with all the Nintendo things you need to know. I hope you all had an enjoyable festive break and brought in the New Year in style. Oh, and hello to all those new subscribers who have joined over the holidays , glad to have you with us. 😊 There’s plenty of chatter that we may see a Nintendo Direct in the next week or two — as such, rumours are flying around everywhere. I won’t link to any hearsay, but when stuff does happen I’ll be sure to bring you the highlights. One thing I will link to: this from well-sourced Emily Rodgers on the potential for more Wii U ports on the horizon. Best to keep an eye out for any Direct announcements in the next few days. One thing the next Direct is surely going to bring is a U.S. release date for Brain Training. It’s now out in seemingly all regions other than the States. I’ve linked to a review in the issue below. Next week we have around ten games hitting the eShop, all of which are listed and linked as per usual. Finaly, if you’re a fan of Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) it kicks of today – here’s some of the highlights of what you can catch this coming week. That’s it from me. Thanks for reading – and I hope you all have a great 2020 . Don’t forget, you can always hit reply to this email if you want to chat, have feedback, etc. 🙂
Cheers,
REVIEW Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training — ” offers more of what we’ve come to expect from the series but with some interesting new additions “. Ashley Jones // N-Europe The best hidden gems and underrated Switch games of 2019 — Some truly great stuff here that’s worth adding to your backlog that you won’t want to skip. Ape Out was a particular indie fave for me from last year. Gavin Lane // Nintendo Life Ape Out helped me survive the holidays — As mentioned above, I loved my time with this game. Looks like Ryan Gilliam of Polygon found it somewhat (perhaps oddly?) cathartic: ” Ape Out didn’t alleviate that high holiday stress, it replicated it “. ” Ape Out is a stress ball, a tension reliever “. Ryan Gilliam // Polygon Nintendo Switch and the Purple Ocean theory — I enjoyed this exploration of how Nintendo’s strategy has evolved since the Wii, moving beyond the ‘Blue Ocean’ approach to something that’s seemingly more balanced with the Switch. Abram Buehner // Nintendad Decade in review: Nintendo’s handheld supremacy — A look back at the 2010s and how Nintendo held dominant in the handheld space. Dave Aubrey // Pocket Gamer REVIEW Invisigun Reloaded — A unique multiplayer experience which is “a n interesting take on Bomberman that makes invisibility a core mechanic “. Emily Rodgers // Nintendo World Report Sayonara Wild Hearts is the feelgood classic of the year Martin Robinson // Eurogamer Analyst says there’s “absolutely no doubt” a 4K Switch Pro is coming in 2020 — Although long rumoured, take this with a pinch of salt for now.
