Your Nintendo digest for the week ending January 19.

Anime swordboi.
Hey , here’s issue #164 of Switch Weekly, with all the Nintendo stuff you need to see. So, still no Direct ‘proper’, but a Smash Bros presentation instead. I’m all for this weekly content drip Nintendo – keep it coming. 😉 I’ve been playing a new little indie brawler this week called Super Crush KO. It’s fun, and super colourful – which makes a change from most run-n-gun fighters. I’ve reviewed it, and you can check it out here ( any shares of this would also be appreciated ). Oh, I also was a guest on Daryl Baxter’s excellent Pal Keys podcast – which I’ve linked up in the issue below – if you want to hear my voice, that’s where you can find it. 😅 Over 20 games hitting the eShop next week, including Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath and a couple of Sega Ages re-releases. Thanks for reading. Have a great week.
Cheers,
▶ Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Mr. Sakurai presents “Byleth” — When this live-stream started and it was revealed to be yet another Fire Emblem character most of my Twitter feed thought it was a troll. Nope . Fair to say it was not what people expected . I’m not too fussed, but it would have been nice to see another series represented. Also, Cuphead ! Nintendo // YouTube REVIEW Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore — This one-of-a-kind JRPG finds a new home on the Switch, and this reviewer pegs it as worthy of the encore. Cameron Hawkins // Dual Shockers REVIEW Super Crush KO — Despite this one being a tad repetitive, I had fun with it (the combo system in particular). Chris Brandrick // Switch Weekly PODCAST PAL Keys – ‘L is Real’ with Chris Brandrick — I spoke with Daryl Baxter about all things Switch Weekly and how it came to be, along with discussing my favourite game and boss battle. Biased, but I think it’s a good listen . Daryl Baxter // PAL Keys ▶ Behind the GameCube Joy-Cons — Remember last week I linked up those awesome DIY GameCube Joy-Cons ? Well, YouTuber Kevin Kenson has sat down with the guy behind them to find out more. Kevin Kenson // YouTube Metro Redux is coming to Nintendo Switch — This definitive edition double pack, arriving next month, features both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Koch Media Bloodstained’s Switch port is now in a “nearly identical state for content” as PC and console Vikki Blake // Eurogamer REVIEW To the Moon — “may be light on gameplay, but it is a storytelling powerhouse that explores the themes of love and regret” . Ben Reeves // Game Informer Pokémon Sword and Shield’s DLC is what the series needs — makes the argument for why the DLC is a good thing. The site also has an article for the opposing case . Nathan Ellingsworth // The Nintendo Village Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze was the best 2D Platformer of the decade Jonathan Balofsky // Real Otaku Gamer Couples that survive Overcooked 2 without breaking up outlast anything Kirk McKeand // VG247 Patrick Klepek // Vice ▶ The 25 year-old Japanese game getting a French sequel — Windjammers, said to be something of a mix of both Street Fighter and Pong. IGN // YouTube MAGAZINE Switch Player 36 — The latest issue of the excellent Switch Player magazine is out now, and there’s a free sample up online now for you to have a look at to get a taste. If you miss printed game mags, I’d reccomend giving this one a go. Paul Murphy // Switch Player ℹ️ Enjoying the newsletter? Support it on Patreon .
