#165: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending January 26.
|
No Direct.
Hi , issue #165 of Switch Weekly here, with all the Nintendo links you need to see. After the Pokemon Direct and Smash presentation, this week felt a little quiet from Nintendo — but that’s not to say I don’t have plenty to share, including plenty of reviews for you to dig into. In case you missed it last week, I reviewed Vertex Pop’s Super Crush KO. Read what I thought of it here . Oh, and would you believe it — it’s been a year since Nintendo announced that development on Metroid Prime 4 was starting over, with Retro Studios picking up the project. I did a video on this at the time with my thoughts . In it, I say the title is likely a “2020 or beyond” release. I’m putting my chips on “beyond” right now. 😅 Nearly 30 games hitting the eShop next week, including one I’m currently trying out: Not Tonight – it’s all about post-Brexit Britain, and it’s fair to say things aren’t going so well. Maybe a little on the nose. I’ll share more thoughts next week. Have a great week.
Cheers,
Nintendo doesn’t have to refund digital preorders, according to European court — This seems dumb. If you pre-order a game, and then change your mind…. well you can’t . There’s currently no way to cancel a pre-order and Nintendo seems to want to keep it that way. A judge agrees this is fine — the wrong decision in my mind. Here’s the original Norwegian reporting on this . Jay Peters // The Verge REVIEW Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD — “feels incredibly enjoyable to play and despite being a game that’s now 15 years old, it has been adapted to the Switch fantastically”. Ben Bayliss // DualShockers REVIEW 198X — Jordan explains that if your first gaming memories are from the ‘80s, then chances are high that pixel caper ‘198X’, a loving homage to the arcade scene, will speak to you on a very personal level. Jordan Rudek // Nintendo World Report REVIEW Dauntless — Seems like this one offers up fun (and free) monster hunting, but with noticable performance issues. Seth Cano // Pure Nintendo REVIEW Ember — Described as ” a lovingly-crafted little indie love-letter to those great big isometric RPGs of yesteryear ” but suffers performance issues in places and ends up being a ” pretty generic experience ” overall. PJ O’Reilly // Nintendo Life REVIEW Lumini — Not a glowing review for this one. Seems more of an ‘experience’, and one not packed with gameplay. Brett Posner-Ferdman // Nintendo World Report Nintendo patent reveals new Joy-Con attachment featuring a stylus Heather Wald // GamesRadar Square Enix Collective brings The Turing Test to Nintendo Switch on February 7th Jack Parsons // Loot Pots ℹ️ Enjoying the newsletter? ⚡️ Quick Links: 📝 Two years ago Nintendo added a review system to the eShop ( and then removed it ). 😎 Here’s 12 games coming in February that look pretty neat. ⚖️ Yep, it’s 2020 and we’re still talking about Wiimote lawsuits . 🎮 This Doom Eternal Pro Controller will arrive before the game does. ✨ This dad modified the Xbox Adaptive controller so his daughter could play BoTW. 👂 Pokemon do ASMR now. Take it away Charmander . 🤸♀️ So this is just a silly concept, but what if you could play BoTW with the Ring-Con ? 📺 That CGI remake of the first Pokemon movie is coming to Netflix next month. 🤩 Kevin Kenson runs through a bunch of neat Switch accessories . ❤️ Switch Weekly is ad-free and sustainable thanks to the support of my lovely Patrons, including: PC, CapnGoat, SB, FrozenTrout and others . |
