#168: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending February 16.
|
Tell me what you think.
Hi , here’s issue #168 of Switch Weekly, with the Nintendo stuff you need to see. This year’s State of Switch survey is here ! 🎉 If you’re new around here, it’s a big annual questionnaire I put together, trying to find out what folks think of Nintendo’s hybrid and the platform as a whole. Now in it’s third year, the survey is open and ready for your responses. Last year around 15,000 of you filled it out, so now, what with the Switch Lite, and a ton more Switch owners out there, it would be great to beat that number. Please do share this around! The survey will close in a few weeks, and then I’ll be sharing the results and my thoughts here. So stick around. Remember back in November when loads of details about Pokemon Sword and Shield were leaking online? Well, this week it came to light that Nintendo now knows the source of the leak, and surprising some, named them. FNintendo, a Portugese Nintendo site, are the ones Nintendo pointed the finger at, severing all ties with them. FNintendo posted up an apology ( which reads to me like some sort of legal requirement on their behalf ). So yeah, don’t leak if you’ve signed non-disclosure agreements, and want to get review copies, the Nintendo ninjas will find you. We’ve got around 25 games hitting the eShop next week, with Thursday and Friday being particularly stacked. The full list is in the issue below . Thanks for reading. Catch you next time.
Cheers,
The State of Switch Survey 2020 — This is the third year I’ve ran this survey now, and it returns once again just ahead of the Switch’s third anniversary. As usual I’m looking to get a sense of what people think about Nintendo’s hybrid, and this year I have a new set of questions about the Switch Lite, backlogs, etc. Chris Brandrick // Switch Weekly REVIEW Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold — Chris Scullion calls this ” a beautifully presented helping of dungeon crawling, garnished with generous amounts of humour and charm “. However, here’s another take from Richard Atkinson at My Nintendo News , who wasn’t so keen, calling it ” a mediocre cold buffet of half-baked ideas “. Chris Scullion // Nintendo Life ▶ The Wonderful 101’s Untold History – Game History Secrets — With the Kickstarter for this game doing crazy numbers, here’s a great look back at history behind Platinum game’s Wii U wonder. Liam Robertson // Did You Know Gaming REVIEW Florence — This is a short experience, taking around an hour to play through, but you’ll get ” a beautiful story of adult life and the trials that come with it ” in that brief play time. Joe DeVader // Nintendo World Report REVIEW Goblin Sword — “as good as a budget-tiered Metroidvania can get – and the light RPG elements certainly help broaden its appeal”. Ben // Switch RPG REVIEW Kunai – Get into the swing of things with this ninja-flavored indie Mike Williams // US Gamer ℹ️ Enjoying the newsletter? Support it on Patreon . Leaving Breath of the Wild’s Great Plateau is the ultimate call to adventure — I enjoyed this read. It explores why the Great Plateau stands out in terms of gameplay, aesthetics, and consequences — and how it frames the context for the entire game. Marty Sliva // Escapist Magazine Atlus survey reveals massive demand for Nintendo Switch ports Marc Deschamps // ComicBook A hacked Pokemon is wreaking havoc in Pokemon Sword and Shield Nadia Oxford // US Gamer Four new NES & SNES games heading to Switch Online next week Matt Wales // Eurogamer Yoku’s Island Express: Queer, Contra-Colonial game design Ryan House // The UWM Digital Cultures Collaboratory
