#173: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending March 22.
|
A Tom Nook Tonic.
👋 Hi , here’s issue #173 of Switch Weekly, with all the Nintendo stuff you need to see from the past seven days. Kicking things of on a more serious note: I hope you’re all staying as safe as is possible in these troubling times . Of course, as we all adapt to an increasingly remote way of life, you may want to chat — so please do email me if you want to talk games, or anything else for that matter. I’ll still be publishing Switch Weekly as usual every Sunday, so on that point, if you do have anything you think worth sharing in the newsletter please do hit reply and let me know. Now, the big news in the world of Switch this week is of course Animal Crossing . I’ve put a few hours into it so far, and although I ain’t really sunk my teeth into it it’s clear that the game is going to be an absolute joy, providing plenty of cheerful escapism and fun. I’ve linked up plenty of Animal Crossing stuff in the issue below to dig into. Oh, and I got peaches . 🍑 Anyway, nearly 30 games are hitting the eShop next week, including Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. Fingers crossed a full-on Nintendo Direct appears next week. 👀
Thank you for reading — until next time,
REVIEW Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the escape we all need right now — This review of Tom Nook’s ” mellow holiday fantasy ” perfectly sums up how such a game can slot in to life at just the right time: ” If ever there was a perfect time for a game about embracing a new, simple existence on a deserted island, we’re living in it “. Most reviews for this one are very glowing — Nintendo has a hit on their hands here. Keza MacDonald // The Guardian ▶ Indie World – March 17 — As was rumoured, Nintendo did drop an Indie game showcase this past week. Plenty of announcements and trailers to check out, including Exit The Gungeon ( which is out now – review linked below ), PixelJunk Eden 2, Moving Out, Blue Fire, and more. I need to rewatch this and note down which I want to keep an eye on . Nintendo UK // YouTube The State of Switch Survey 2020 — If you missed this last week, here it is again. The full results from my annual survey on all things Nintendo Switch. Plenty to dig into here . Chris Brandrick // Switch Weekly 40 video game-related shows and movies to watch on Netflix — Ok, this isn’t really Switch related, but Chris has done a good job of putting together a list of videogame related shows and films to watch over on Netflix — you may notice a dip in quality , but this seems like a good way to pass some time when self-isolating. ( Note: These titles are all currently available on Netflix UK, and may differ from region to region ). Chris Scullion // Tired Old Hack REVIEW Doom 64 — I never played this first time round on the N64. It’s not the usual Doom experience, but one that’s still ‘Doom enough’ it seems. “..a bit of diamond in the rough” Daniel Vuckovic // Vooks REVIEW Exit The Gungeon — Said to be a finely-tuned action platfomer. Fans of the first game will be ” instantly familiar with the weird and wonderful world presented by Exit The Gungeon, but they might be taken aback by the shift in gameplay “.
