#186: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending June 21.
|
Say Cheese.
Hi , issue #186 of your weekly Switch digest, with the week in Nintendo news. Ooft, I’m not feeling great this weekend folks ( come down with something! ) — as such, I’m gonna keep the commentary light and just jump into the issue. That, and it’s Father’s Day … Next week we’ve got over 30 games dropping on the eShop, including Duke Nukem, SpongeBob, Pokemon Cafe, Ninjala, and more.
Finally, if you want to do me a solid and you’re on Twitter, I’d
love
if you could
retweet this
and let your followers know about Switch Weekly.
▶ New Pokemon Snap — YES . 20 years after the original it has finally happened. Very pleased to see this, especially as its seemingly sticking to its on-rails roots. Also, seems smart to give it the ‘New’ prefix so not to alienate players with a numbered sequel. How did this never happen on the Wii U though…. IGN // YouTube REVIEW Burnout Paradise — ” still an incredible game, and one that feels perfectly at home on the Switch, even though the price is absolutely ridiculous” infact the author goes on to say that the price point ” quiets the fanfare on a release otherwise worthy of celebration “. Chris Scullion writing at Nintendo Life made a similar point regarding price, adding that despite showing its age in places, this 12-year old open-world racer is still a welcome addition to the Switch library. Adam Cook // God is a Geek REVIEW Pokémon Sword & Shield – The Isle Of Armor — ” a lovely addition to the base [..] games, bringing in far more new features to tickle hardcore fans than we initially expected. On the downside, it’s a little shy on narrative-driven content…” Alex Olney // Nintendo Life REVIEW Summer In Mara — A wholesome farming-sim that is ” laid-back, surprisingly deep, and comes across as what can only be described as the love-child of Harvest Moon and Moana” . With a chill vibe and a focus on nature this offers a ” wonderful and much welcome escape from the current pandemic” . Here’s another review from Nintendo Village. Abbi Smith // Nintendad Mr. Sakurai presents an ARMS fighter — A 35-minute presentation (taking place tomorrow ) showing off the latest fighter to join the Smash Ultimate roster. Nintendo of America // Twitter Apex Legends coming to Nintendo Switch this fall — EA in supporting Switch shocker… Apex is fun, so this is fine with me. John Friscia // Nintendo Enthusiast REVIEW Boot Hill Bounties — Described as ” Earthbound meets Red Dead Redemption” ” this 16-bit style RPG is said to reward you ” handsomely for the time you spend with it “. Andrew Valentine // Switch Indie Fix REVIEW Railway Empire — ” a lot of fun, to the right person” “. Martin // Rapid Reviews REVIEW Ruiner — ” A brutal but rewarding twin-stick shooter “. Angela Marrujo // Nintendojo Nintendo won’t refund players who purchased the wrong DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield — Two new expansion packs are now available for the latest Pokemon games, but you need to make sure you buy the right one. The headline here reflects what was happening earlier this week, but thankfully it looks like Nintendo have since changed their stance on refusing refunds. Imogen Donovan // Videogamer How the Nintendo Switch prevents downgrades by irreparably blowing its own fuses — This was originally shared back in 2018 but has been doing the rounds again this week. It details how the Nintendo Switch adopts a ‘worrisome-strategy’ of preventing firmware downgrades by permanently modifying your device every time it updates. JonLuca DeCaro Nintendo threatens repair shop for advertising Switch mod chip installs Matthew Gault // Vice Breath of the Wild’s open-air world offers true catharsis for my ADHD brain Joseph Stanichar // Paste The weird world of Nintendo Switch ports: Why is quality still an issue? A.K Rahming // Nintendo Enthusiast Videogames have to reckon with how they depict the Police Imran Khan // Kotaku
