#191: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending July 26.
|
Gag.
Hi , issue #191 of your weekly round-up here, with the Nintendo news you need to see. A few weeks back I noted how Nintendo seemed to be doing kinda a poor job of managing expectations in terms of their messaging of late. Kinda funny really because since then, they’ve sent out clarifying tweets like this , and were very specific in how they titled a recent Nintendo Direct . The company knows they have a hungry fanbase right now, so they are treading carefully in how they present stuff, particularly when what they are showing isn’t the big reveals folks are clearly so keen to see. For those interested, I’ve been back playing Overwatch lately — that game has a hold on me for sure, as I keep finding myself jumping back in for a few games. I also spent my Friday night playing some more of Clubhouse Games (rock and roll) — who knew Ludo online with friends could be such dumb fun . Clubhouse has such insane polish. For what it is, it’s a real labor of love. Anyway, we’ve got 25 games games hitting the eShop next week, although nothing in particular jumped out at me as a must get .
Finally, I just want to give a shout out to Paul and the team over at Ninty Media for
their successful Kickstarter
and launch of the
all new print magazine Ninty Fresh
. The first issue looks great —
I can’t wait to give it a read when my copy arrives
.
▶ Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase — I’m sure you’ve seen this as it dropped just a day after I published last week, but yup, a Direct! Interesting that this is very clearly labelled to tamper expectations. It’s mini ( sub 10 minutes ), and it’s a partner showcase ( so don’t expect big Nintendo reveals here ). Either way, cool to see new games, including unexpected Cadence of Hyrule DLC, and Shin Megami Tensei news. Nintendo // YouTube The punishing case of Shin Megami Tensei — With two Shin Megami Tensei titles on the horizon here’s a little primer on the series so far. Evan Bee // Switch RPG REVIEW Crysis Remastered on Switch: yes, a handheld really can run Crysis — It’s been 13 years since this game first came out on PC, quickly becoming a benchmark for judging just how good a machine you had. Now it’s on a portable device, and although “the basic concept of a Switch port of the game still seems insane” it’s nice to see that “the porting team did a great job” here. John Linneman // Digital Foundry (Eurogamer) REVIEW Carrion — This game looks gross, atmospheric to the max, and has a really neat twist in that you play as the monster: “Carrion is certainly one of the highlights in gaming from this year so far” . Willem Hilhorst // Nintendo World Report Switch Online Members will soon be able to play Pokkén Tournament for free Liam Doolan // Nintendo Life REVIEW Dex — ” With a phenomenal Cyberpunk aesthetic and fantastic characters, Dex is close to being an incredible experience “. Lyle Carr // God is a Geek The console war is over — It’s clear that Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo all want different things from the next generation, so, is it really a war if everyone wins? Christopher Dring // gamesindustry PowerA’s Nano Enhanced is a smaller, mostly great take on the Switch Pro controller Cameron Faulkner // The Verge Microsoft needs to give Rare freedom, even with Xbox Series X coming Daryl Baxter // Stealth Optional 🙌 Support Switch Weekly on Patreon Each and every week I bring you the latest Switch news and upcoming releases — if you enjoy this digest, consider supporting it for just a dollar a month.
