#218: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending February 7.
|
Switch surpasses 3DS.
Hello, here’s issue #218 of Switch Weekly, with your update on all things Nintendo. Next week sees the latest Wii U port come over to the Switch with the arrival of Super Mario 3D World , but this time we get the new Bowser’s Fury add-on ( the game has seemingly leaked online already ). Let me know if you’re picking it up, especially if you’re doubling dipping after getting it first time around. Funny thing I spotted this week — an Apex Legends Switch controller showed up on Amazon before the game had an official launch date. A few hours later the launch date was revealed, and the battle royale game is due to arrive in early March . Next week sees just over 20 games hitting the eShop, and the full list is in the issue below as ever. I’ve noticed a fair few new folks sign up to the newseltter this week — if you are new, I’d love to know how you found the newsletter. Please do hit reply and let me know. Finally, Nintendo released new financial results this week, and yup, they had a good holiday season. The Switch has now sold more than the 3DS.
Anyway, that’s all from me, have a great week.
🎮 Currently Playing — Glyph, Super Metroid How can Switch live for 8 years? With more sequels and new hardware — ” A long console lifespan is not decided by how many units are sold, but by how engaged the players are with the product “, and well, Switch players are very engaged, and the console is undoubtedly more popular now than it’s ever been (thanks Animal Crossing). Christopher digs into how Nintendo needs to keep players playing. Christopher Dring // VGC Nintendo raises Switch sales forecast after monster holiday quarter Sam Byford // The Verge European Commission confirms it is looking into Joy-Con drift complaints Jordan Oloman, Joe Skrebels // IGN ‘Apex Legends’ will finally arrive on Nintendo Switch in March Surej Singh // NME REVIEW Haven — Although the Switch version doesn’t sound perfect from a performance point of view, the writer tags this is a rare romance game done well, with a goegeous visual style and inviting story. ” Haven is not perfect, certainly not on Switch, but I would follow these characters to the edge of space and beyond “. Willem Hilhorst // Nintendo World Report REVIEW Nuts — I tagged this ” bizarre but beautiful wildlife photography adventure ” as one of my games to look out for last week, and this review from Nate sells me on it all the more. In this pun-heavy review they describe it as a bit cumbersome in places but captivating overall . Nathan Ellingsworth // Switch Player REVIEW Gods Will Fall — Described as ” a unique and challenging dungeon crawler that cleverly combines a handful of inventive gameplay mechanics, resulting in constantly tense and thrilling runs [..] a pretty brutal and unforgiving game “. PJ O’Reilly // Nintendo Life REVIEW Cultist Simulator: Initiate Edition — A Lovecraftian card-sim that’s ” challenging and vastly alienating “. Rachel Hayes // Switch Weekly REVIEW ▶ Blue Fire — An ” impeccable 3D platformer experience with the just right balance of abilities to master and challenges to test you “.
