On the Axiom Verge
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending August 15.

On the verge… Hi, Chris here with issue # 245 of Switch Weekly. Hope you’ve had a good week. Nintendo shared a 20-minute update on upcoming indie games this week with another Indie World presentation . It was a pretty good one I thought, with some neat announcement, a slew of shadow drops, and some dates for anticipated titles. I’ve linked up the video in the issue below, along with some highlights and commentary. I thought it was odd to not see Spelunky mentioned, however just a few days later we got a date for that too. Oh, and no Silksong yet folks . A relatively quiet week on the eShop in terms of big releases — however still plenty to check out as we’ve got just over 25 games coming to the Switch over the next seven days. Full list is below. Oh, and I missed Art of Rally in last week’s issue — it’s out now ( thanks for the note on that Pan Nindyk ). Before I go I just wanted to note that a few weeks back I started 🌲 planting a tree for each issue of Switch Weekly sent — it’s a small way to offset some of the carbon involved in getting this email into your inbox. I shared the news with Switch Weekly patrons – who then kindly planted some more trees. We’re at over 100 trees planted now , which according to Ecologi will result in a 0.5T carbon reduction.
That’s all from me,
🎮 Currently Playing — The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Button City, Kirby’s Dream Course REVIEW Axiom Verge 2 — ” a fantastic evolution of Axiom Verge 1—it feels like a different game, but with enough gameplay and story connections to remain familiar “. Zachary Miller // Nintendo World Report Axiom Verge dev Tom Happ opens up about the challenge of raising a son with special needs — Yes, this is from back in 2016, but this post briefly highlights the realities faced by the developer of Axiom Verge ( and its recent sequel — see above ) . A sound reason to pick up the new game before it sees any discount I’d say. Damien McFerran // Nintendo Life ▶ Indie World Showcase – August 11 Nintendo // YouTube Everything Nintendo announced at Indie World — If you’d rather not watch the video above, here’s a written round-up of what was announced — including seven games that are out now . Tetris Effect and Eastward caught my eye. Michael McWhertor // Polygon The term ‘Indie’ is losing meaning, but maybe that’s a positive sign Thomas Whitehead // Nintendo Life New Pokémon Presents stream coming August 18 Michael McWhertor // Polygon Xenoblade voice actress implies a new game is in the works — which is true — I shared a link last week which made reference to this, and it has since been corroborated . So, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 announcement soon? Imran Khan // Fanbyte REVIEW Greak: Memories of Azur — ” While there is a decent experience underneath, some inexplicable design decisions, the uninspired sidequests and serviceable story don’t buoy the adventure enough to make up for how badly implemented the game’s primary mechanic is “. This is out next week, and a demo is available. Jordan Rudek // Nintendo World Report REVIEW Unbound: Worlds Apart — ” it wears its Ori influence pretty tightly on its sleeve ” explains Arthur, but ultimately calls it a ” special little game ” that you may want to check out if you’re into puzzles and Metroidvanias . Trevor Gould // Nintendo Enthusiast Gorgeous, God-like and… bisexual? How ‘Hades’’ developers made sexuality part of the power fantasy Dom Peppiatt // NME As my disability progressed, I’m grateful that games did, too Grant Stoner // Fanbyte You’ve never seen Breath Of The Wild look this good before — This visual mod sees Hyrule in 8K with ray-tracing to boot. I think it looks neat, and makes for a cool enough demo, but the actual visual style of the original game will age better for sure. Ethan Gach // Kotaku
