▶ Nintendo Direct September 2025 — An hour long Direct featuring Mario movie details, a new Mario Tennis, a new Yoshi game, Resident Evil Requeim coming to Switch 2, a Suika Game sequel and much more. Here's a roundup of what was announced if you'd rather not watch. Highlights for me? Well, I'm looking forward to playing Galaxy 2, as I've never actually played it before! I thought Popucom looks like a ton of fun and is on my watchlist, and I'm super curious to try the Virtual Boy titles (even though the cost of entry is a tad insane). Metroid Prime 4 landing in early December is rad and I'm glad to see it finally dated — but that trailer with the motorbike? Weird. Oh, and the DK DLC seems a tad early? As for the Talking Flower device, well also weird. Lots of weird. Weird ain't bad though, just…interesting. 😅 Nintendo of America // YouTube ▶ Virtually Unplayable: The story of Virtual Boy — As Nintendo is having another crack at getting us to (sorta) buy the Virtual Boy, here's a look back at the flop of the 1995 original. Memory Card // YouTube Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s first DLC will take you to the Mega Dimension — This paid DLC for the upcoming Z-A was announced during the Direct. It will add new story content and Mega Pokemon too. I still think announcing paid DLC before a game is even out is a bit stinky though — not a fan. Charles Pulliam-Moore // The Verge Rosalina's Storybook from Super Mario Galaxy goes on sale this November — Might make a nice Christmas gift? It's up for preorder already. Liam Doolan // Nintendo Life ▶ Nintendo gave Samus a motorcycle and I'm excited Nintendo World Report TV // YouTube ▶ A discussion of an absolutely amazing Nintendo Direct Back Log Banter // YouTube REVIEW Hollow Knight: Silksong — A game that intends to make you suffer, even to its own detriment — A great critique of Team Cherry's latest here, praising plenty but also highlighting the "tiring and demotivating nature of its sadistic approach to challenge". Ashley Schofield // VGC The elegance of movement in Silksong Amol Kapoor // 12 Grams of Carbon Silksong's tight construction is exactly what I need after too much open-world loafing PJ O'Reilly // Nintendo Life Silksong is the first major Switch 2 game that justifies a Pro controller Patricia Hernandez // Polygon REVIEW The Garfield Kart 2 review (Werner Herzog's version) — "Garfield Kart 2 is that forbidden apple from the garden, begging you to take a bite when you could be feasting on Mario Kart World's delicate sushi instead. Be like the cat on the table. Indulge in sin every once and a while.". Giovanni Colantonio // Polygon REVIEW Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection Tom Massey // Nintendo Life ▶ Chris Houlihan is real — A well-told story about Zelda: A Link to the Past, a Nintendo Power competition, and three decades of confusion. Kevin Hainline // YouTube Jack Yarwood // Time Extension Ten years ago, this game save Nintendo's reputation — A bit of a dramatic headline sure, but Mario Maker is a great example of experimental Nintendo. Mo Mozuch // Inverse Sega accused of using Police to recover Nintendo dev kits it had "negligently disposed of" Damien McFerran // Time Extension Console pricing has gone terribly wrong Rob Fahey // Games Industry ▶ How inaccurate are Nintendo's official emulators — This is an interesting low-level bit of spelunking into Nintendo emulation, how accurate it all is, what they get wrong, and how this impacts speedrunning. 100th Coin // YouTube
