#175: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending April 5.
|
Quit with the eggs already.
Hi , thanks for opening this week’s Switch Weekly — I’m back with your update on all things Nintendo from the past seven days, plus a look at what games are landing next week . I had a passing thought in the previous issue about the Mario & Sonic Olympics game and whether it would be re-released with a 2021 moniker. That looks unlikely, as despite now taking place next year, the games will still be branded as 2020 . I guess it would be a huge waste to redo all those medals and merch! Some further lockdown thoughts: it may seem that the past three weeks have been nothing but Animal Crossing chat here – and you’d be right. With many of us self-isolating it seems this game is the perfect tonic for many, so it’s really no surprise that a lot of the gaming press is talking about how this game is proving to be a perfect escape from our current reality. Apologies if you don’t have any interest in this game, but yes I have a few more AC think pieces to share – like the virus itself, this too shall pass . 😅 Anyway, this week we’ve got 13 titles hitting the eShop, including Gunbrick Reloaded and Disaster Report 4. As this global crisis continues it’s all a little uncertain if we will see any notable delays to titles – it’s almost an inevitability, particularly for boxed games ( The Last of Us 2 being a big recent example ). I’ll be keeping an eye on this, and everything else Switch related as ever.
Thanks for reading, and keep well.
Nintendo has big plans for Super Mario Bros.’ 35th anniversary — Now, this is by no means confirmed, however VGC are always well sourced, so there is little reason to doubt this ( and this lines up with what Emily Rogers said earlier last month ). Very exciting news, as if true this means we’ve got multiple 3D Mario remasters on the way , including Sunshine, Galaxy and 64. Personally I’m very excited at the prospect of a remaster of 64 . Andy Robinson // VGC Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bunny Day event is off to a sour start — Ok, this is purely anecdotal, but based on the chatter on my Twitter feed it seems like no-one is enjoying this event… Bryan Mayle // Medium Nintendo Switch eShop Spring Sale drops hundreds of games by up to 80% James Pickard // Eurogamer REVIEW The Complex — An interactive movie you play on your Switch. Said to be lacking in meaningful choices but is still ” good popcorn entertainment “. John Friscia // Nintendo Enthusiast REVIEW Totally Reliable Delivery Service — ” delivers some goofy laughs ” but is ” noticeably rough around the edges “. Tristan Ogilvie // IGN REVIEW Explosive Jake —Described as “a throwback to the classic Bomberman games, but with some ideas added to help make the concept its own” . Jonathan Balofsky // Real Otaku Gamer REVIEW Zombie Army Trilogy — “knows what it is, and does it well” . Chris Leebody // Cubed 3 REVIEW Gioteck JC-20: Cheap Joy-Con Controllers — These seem to be an acceptable budget option. Dom Needler // Stealth Optional GoNintendo Thought: The April Fools’ Day joke that hurt the most — Thankfully April Fools’ day jokes were few and far between this year, but this one from FDG Entertainment , teasing a could-be new DuckTales game, seems to have stung a little. GoNintendo REVIEW Good Job — I shared a review of this last week, but here’s another glowing appraisal: ” a wonderful surprise that everyone should try out “.
