Nintendo profits rise to $2.7bn despite Switch sales slowdown — Mario Wonder hits 12 million, Tears passes 20 million, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now sitting at over 60 million units sold. The Switch is now the best-selling system of all time in Japan . All good numbers, but both hardware and software sales are down year on year — expected this late in the cycle though. The Q&A session with Shuntaro Furukawa, which always follows some fresh financial results, can be found here — hat tip to the person squandering their question by asking about the upcoming Zelda movie. Sophie McEvoy // gamesindustry REVIEW Eastward: Octopia — Easily one of 2024’s best surprises so far Ewan Moore // Gaming Bible ▶ The Legend of Zelda Orchestra Concert — If you didn’t catch this live earlier this week then this half-hour concert is well worth sticking on. Instant goosebumps? You bet. There was also a Splatoon 3 Deep Cut concert . (Sidebar: It’s a shame these musicans are playing to an empty room — but understandable considering the reported safety concerns to the event as a whole.) Nintendo // YouTube CRKD’s new NEO S controller sets its sights on collectors Chris Brandrick // Overkill ▶ More Xbox games might be coming to Nintendo Switch John Rairdin and Neal Ronaghan // Nintendo World Report Nintendo Switch digital game prices are bananas Craig Grannell // Stuff ▶ Tears of the Kingdom: Connection & Being Human — Seth reflects on the themes in the Zelda series and how they are a “meditation on the human experience”. All N Media // YouTube Fortnite is winning the metaverse Andrew Webster // The Verge Ranking every game in the Mario Kart series Brian Shea // Game Informer
All releases are digital, Europe & U.S. unless otherwise stated.
