#287: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending June 19.
|
Cowabunga. Hey , issue # 287 of Switch Weekly here, with your Nintendo round-up. Hope you are well. So last week I touched upon the absense of a typical E3 and the usual Nintendo Direct that traditionally comes along with it . Now, for the most part, what many consider “E3” week has come and gone with no Direct to speak of. However, we have had plenty of chatter since on just when we should expect a new presentation from Nintendo. Now there’s nothing official yet, but all signs are pointing to a showcase later in month — Wednesday, June 29th to be precise. Time to start making your predictions . In place of E3 this year we have had plenty of showcases, including Summer Games Fest, Day of the Devs, Wholesome Direct, and more — and with that came plenty of Switch games . Keeping tabs on all those has proven tricky , as such I found this video from Nintendo Life handy , running through some of the highlights. Some lovely stuff in here. Next week we’ve got nearly 30 games come to Switch, including Fall Guys, the new Fire Emblem Warrios game, and personal highlight ElecHead. Plenty to check out — full list is below as ever. Thanks for reading, and catch you next time. (Also, a big hello to those new to the newsletter — if you have any thoughts or comments you can always just hit reply and chat, even if just to say hey.)

🎮 Currently Playing — Cuphead, Mini Motorways, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge (Xbox), Disc Room (Xbox) REVIEW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge — I’ve been playing a bit of this on my Xbox over the weekend, and it’s every bit as authentic as you might have hoped. Feels like the real deal. Proper arcade action brawler that feels like its right outta the 90s. The online worked flawlessly for me too (on Xbox). This Switch review was glowing: ” so very far from being just a cheap nostalgia play; it’s a lovingly crafted, action-packed experience with fun and playful callbacks to classic Turtles games “. Jordan Rudek // Nintendo World Report REVIEW Neon White — Maybe I was late to the party on learning this, but I was surprised to discover that this game comes from the same designer as Donut County (which I recently played). Anyway, this demon hunting heaven set shooter is getting good reviews across the board and is praised her for its smooth action. The author notes ” it’s coming out at a packed time of year ” but adds that ” Neon White should definitely be on the radar of Switch owners “. Here’s another review from The Verge . Donald Theriault // Nintendo World Report Transition from Switch will be ‘significant challenge,’ ex-Nintendo head says — A chat with Reggie on post-Nintendo life, the pandemic, AR and much more — including how Nintendo should ‘leverage’ their GameCube and Wii content. Scott Stein // CNET Nintendo expands its Switch N64 library next week with Pokémon Snap — The 1999 original will be on the Switch Online service starting June 24. This marks the last of the previously announced N64 titles coming to the service. What else is in store is now a mystery. Liam Doolan // Nintendo Life What has happened to all the video games?
