The Switch 2 picture pulls into focus

Hello , and happy new year! Chris here, back with the first issue of Switch Weekly for 2025 — this year is gonna be a good one! Hope you’re well, and that you’ve had an enjoyable Christmas (if celebrating).

Like I mentioned before the brief festive break, this time of year is usually a little quiet beyond the typical GOTY chatter. But the past few weeks have been pretty much packed with Switch 2 tidbits. It’s gotten to the point now where folks are even talking up Nintendo moving things around in terms of reveal plans to curb any further details coming to light.

So what’s different this time around? Well, the thinking goes that Nintendo has had the console in production for many months now, with some suggesting mass production started as far back as even September. Whether that’s accurate or not is hard to say, but it would align somewhat with Furukawa’s comments on wanting to create enough units to avoid any issues with scalpers . Of course, the risk with running such a long pre-release production run is that the supply chain starts to leak, and it sure looks like that’s what we’re seeing here (including this fresh look at the new Joy-Con design ). For me, these leaks would be all the more exciting a prospect if the Switch 2 was some real great unknown, but for the most part as it’s looking to be a fairly safe (by Nintendo’s standards) follow up the appeal in chasing every tidbit isn’t quite as strong. It’s interesting all the same, but I’m not expecting anything on Wii-level reveal craziness.

Talking of a reveal, it really feels like it can’t be far off now. Maybe even in the next week or two perhaps?

Anyway, next week sees around 20 titles come to the Switch 1 eShop, and you can find them all below as usual. Again, not much in the way of solid recommendations but a couple seem worth checking out.
