Hi,
here’s issue #64 of
Switch Weekly
, with your round-up of the week in Nintendo.
Kinda crazy thing Nintendo surprised us all with this week: ‘Labo’ is their new range of craft/maker sets aimed at kids, and they look really neat and incredibly well thought out.
The reveal (linked below) showed a realy inventive mix of play styles, all made with just cardboard — for example, you can create a working Piano
just by folding some card together
. I think it’s all pretty wild, and is a lovely callback to the toy making Nintendo of the 1970s.
As you can probably tell, I really dig this announcement, and think its actually quite a bold move. Many have criticised it, but I think they’re missing the point – this isn’t going to cater to everyone, and nor does it have to. I hope this pays off for Nintendo, as it looks really fun
(although I can see the price being an issue for many)
.
As a final point, I think the timing of this announcement is smart. The Switch has been out for a year, and is now well established with a base audience — can you imagine the possible backlash this would have seen if this was announced at back at launch?
Enjoy this week’s round-up!
