Nintendo: Crank controller anyone?
|
|
▶ Indie World Showcase August 2025 — I'd say this was a better showing than the Direct last week. Some good stuff here in the roughly 15-minute presentation, including Mina the Hollower (a demo of which is out now), puzzler Is This Seat Taken?, Ball X Pit, and UFO 50. If you'd rather just pick and chose which announcements to check out, here's a round-up of each trailer shown. Nintendo // YouTube Nintendo patent shows two novel Joy-Con 2 attachments — a crank and a clickable wheel — Whether anything comes from these patents, who knows, but the crank would be a neat way to bring the inventive library of the Playdate to the Switch platform. Nintendo Patents Watch // Bluesky REVIEW Chillin' by the Fire — Niche appeal but is "a novel way to connect with pals". Willem Hilhorst at Nintendo World Report was notably more taken with it, stating "its focus on social elements makes it a delight to return to". PJ O'Reilly // Nintendo Life REVIEW The Analogue 3D might be delayed, but I can confirm its 8Bitdo N64 controller is worth the hype Phil Hayton // Games Radar REVIEW EA SPORTS Madden NFL 26 — "a perfectly good way to play this excellent outing". PJ O'Reilly // Nintendo Life Nintendo announces My Mario, a range of products for young children including amiibo building blocks — If it works for Disney. There's a new Mario app too. Chris Scullion // VGC REVIEW Dear Me, I Was…: A beautifully brief adventure — "one of those experiences that reaffirms what a powerful art form games can truly be". Henry Stockdale // Rewinder "Pokémon's confusing contradictions are confusing my son" Ravi Hiranand // Crossplay
