Hey,
issue 97 of
Switch Weekly
here with your Nintendo update.
As I mentioned last week, Nintendo had to delay their planned Direct presentation. Many suspected it would be rescheduled for Thursday the 13th — turns out it was!
If you missed the Direct,
it’s worth checking out
. It was packed with announcements
(over 30 games in fact!)
. You can catch up here — I’ve also linked to the bigger news to come out of the presentation below. We also finally got more details on Nintendo’s online service, although it’s fair to say not everyone is best pleased with what’s on offer, and what restrictions also apply. I’ve linked below to what matters here — I’m going to reserve judgement until it launches, but seeing
things like this
sure does make my eyes roll.
As you can imagine, following a Direct I have plenty to link too — so dig in!
Have a great week, and thanks for reading,
Cheers,
Chris

Nintendo Switch Online – Overview Trailer
Ok, here’s the actual information we’ve been waiting for ahead of the Switch’s Online service launching. You’ll need to pay to play online starting September 19th. Judging by the down votes on this video, people aren’t to best pleased with the offering.

Nintendo Switch requires weekly online check-in to play NES games
This seems to be a sticking point for many when it comes to the Switch online plans. It would make sense if it matched the length of your membership (be it monthly or annually), but to check weekly seems unnecessary.

Animal Crossing Switch is out in 2019
The biggest announcement from the Direct, teased and revealed in a rather amusing way. I imported the GameCube version as Nintendo took
forever
to bring it to Europe. Looking forward to this one — take my bells Tom Nook.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be haunting the Switch next year
I loved the original — in fact I got it on launch day with my GameCube, so I’m totally down for more ghost hunting. The trailer is included at the link above if you want to take a look.

Cities: Skylines for Switch has some disappointing performance issues
This saw a Switch release last week
(and was announced during the Direct)
— so it’s a shame to see that the port isn’t up to scratch. I’ve put a fair few hundred(!) hours into the PC version of this, so would have loved a solid port. This is one I’ll be keeping an eye on to see if it improves.
