As Switch 2 sells 17 million, the original Switch reaches a new milestone

Nintendo reported its latest financial results on Tuesday for the nine months of its fiscal year ending March 2026. Net sales hit ¥1,905.8 billion (roughly $12.8B USD) during this period — a staggering year-over-year upward change of 99.3%. The Switch 2 launch essentially doubled Nintendo’s revenue compared to the same period last year.

This reported revenue figure even surpasses Nintendo’s full-year ¥1,758.9B COVID-era peak. As such, Nintendo is now forecasting a total ¥2,250B for the full fiscal year.

As the figures shared today include the holiday period (data between April 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025), we’ve seen some impressive festive numbers, with the Switch 2 now sitting at a total of 17.37 million units sold, this pace makes it the company’s fastest-selling console to date.

The original Nintendo Switch also reached a new milestone, selling an additional 1.36 million this past quarter and reaching a new total of 155.37 million, surpassing the Nintendo DS to become Nintendo’s best selling hardware ever.

On the software side, Mario Kart World continues to impress with lifetime sales now sitting at 14.03 million. This represents an 80% attach rate – meaning roughly 4 out of every 5 Switch 2 owners have this latest Mario Kart entry. Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 4.25 million copies to date. The Switch 2 Edition of Pokemon: Legends Z-A sold 3.89 million, with some 8.41 million sold on the original Switch (making a total of 12.3 million for the Pokemon adventure). Finally, Sakurai’s Kirby Air Riders has sold 1.76 million units to date. No sales figures for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond were shared — Nintendo typically share sales figures for any software that sells over a million units.

Let’s get into the charts:

Nintendo sales in the financial year 26 (FY26) hit ¥1,905.8 (roughly $12.8B USD), with a total of ¥2,250B now forecast for year end in March.

The original Nintendo Switch has now reached a total of 155.37 million units sold, surpassing the Nintendo DS.

Pokemon Legends Z-A sales in the chart above are for the Switch 2 Edition only.
