▶ The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct — The musical opening is chef-kiss lovely. We got a closer look at Ocarina (out in November), complete with some very Nintendo-esque overexplaining about how we can jump and move the camera now. The in-game Ocarina-playing is a lovely new touch. Oh, that previously leaked Zelda-themed hardware was also made official, and the unsurprising movie title was confirmed. I was a tad disappointed we didn’t get to see anything of the upcoming film, but in hindsight it makes sense — Nintendo wants the focus on the Ocarina of remake right now. Nintendo // YouTube ▶ Nintendo Direct September 2026 — …and here’s the regular Direct that followed Zelda. Lots to like here I thought, with the new Metroid being my personal highlight in amongst the over 50 games shown. If you’d rather skip the video, here’s a text-based rundown of everything that was announced. What was your favourite reveal? A new Kirby so soon after the Forgotten Land DLC was a surprise. Nintendo // YouTube ▶ Nintendo’s new Zelda isn’t realism. It’s theatre. — After a barrage of banal ‘hire this man’ comments I shared my thoughts on the visual style Nintendo have gone for with this remake. Spoiler: I really like it. Hanafuda Report // YouTube ▶ Interesting details in Ocarina of Time remake Zeltik // YouTube Why is Link the worst-looking character in the Ocarina of Time remake? — “There is no denying that Young Link is cute, yet he also feels strangely overdesigned as a way to flaunt both the best and worst parts of this new artistic direction” Jade King // GameSpot Ocarina of Time’s new Link looks out of place, and that might be the point Peter Glagowski // Nintendo Wire PREVIEW Final Fantasy VII: Revelation Jordan Rudek // Nintendo World Report It’s official, Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection brings hell to Switch 2 next week Liam Doolan // Nintendo Life Nintendo’s (possible? probable?) final Switch game — So, after that Direct can we assume that Nintendo is done making Switch 1 games? Stephen Totilo // Game File Nintendo wins court case ruling the sale of Switch “circumvention devices” unlawful Gavin Lane // Nintendo Life Switch 2 update adds TV VRR support – but it only works in one game right now William Judd // Digital Foundry Level 5 boss admits using AI for Professor Layton, Yo-Kai Watch reveals Andy Robinson // VGC A landmark SNES game that pioneered a genre is now in English — Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon: Classic HD has been ported – it was the first-ever spin-off in the Dragon Quest series. Alicia Haddick // Kotaku I played ‘Project Dream’, Rare’s leaked Banjo precursor Daryl Baxter // Springboard REVIEW Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush Matthew Powers // Nintendo Wire REVIEW Mewgenics: Tactics bliss wrapped in a hilarious, must-play package — “an extremely special kind of game that only comes around once in a blue moon“. Scott McCrae // Nintendo Life INTERVIEW Edmund McMillen wants you to ask the uncomfortable questions — A frank podcast conversation about Mewgenics (out now on Switch 2), troubled childhoods, and anxious parenthood. Chris Plante // Post Games Nintendo will give buyers a 30% off sale, but no tariff relief money — The company announced a U.S. ‘Customer Appreciation Sale’, brought to you “in part by tariff-related refunds.” Of course, you won’t get any money back, but you can give some to Nintendo if you’re after some deals. Nicole Carpenter // Aftermath My daughter is playing an entirely different game — “My kid and I play video games differently, and those differences had me worried about how she’d perform in real-life competition, too. But I was wrong.” Sarah Doherty // Crossplay
