#140: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending July 28.
|
Sword bois.
Hi, issue #140 of Switch Weekly here, with your week in Nintendo news. The big release this week is Fire Emblem: Three Houses — now I know very little about the FE games, other than there sure is a lot of sword-boi series representation in Smash Bros. I was thinking about maybe jumping in and getting it, but the campaign seems super super long (so good value for money!) and with a newborn son, my gaming time has been cut way down, so this may not be the best pick right now — one for the backlog if anything. Anyway, this new entry seems to be reviewing very well ( currently sitting at around 87 on Metacritic if you care about such things). Reviews and related links below. The Joy-Con drift story doesn’t seem to be going away, with Nintendo now offering up repairs in certain regions — more on that below. All the usual good stuff, including what games are out next week, in the issue. Thanks for reading!
Cheers,
REVIEW Fire Emblem Three Houese is impressive and exhausting — “a real achievement, […] But at times it feels too big, and will demand plenty of time and patience to see it through.” Here’s another review from Kallie Plagge at GameSpot. Jon Bailes // VGC What to expect from Wolfenstein: Youngblood on Switch — “the Switch version of Youngblood involves some sacrifices. But they don’t significantly detract from the experience, and everything else that makes the other versions fun to play is still here” . Here’s a review from Rick Lane at The Guardian. Javy Gwaltney // Game Informer The original DOOM, DOOM II and DOOM 3 are available on Switch now — Announced at QuakeCon and released straight away. A nice surprise at good prices. Oddly, the first game (from 1993) requires you to login to a BNet account — something the internet found amusing . Bethesda have since said this login requirement will be made optional . Ryan Craddock // Nintendo Life The Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con drift problem, explained — Nintendo have now released a statement regarding this, and seem to fixing controllers for free in certain regions. The UK situation ( where I’m based ) is still somewhat unclear, but I’m about to send mine in for repair, so will report back! Chaim Gartenberg // The Verge Astral Chain is not the Platinum game you’re expecting — A promising preview of the upcoming Switch exclusive: “potentially one of Platinum’s most exciting projects of recent years”. Andy Robinson // VGC REVIEW Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition— “a rewarding yet potentially intimidating simulator” Dom Reseigh-Lincoln // Nintendo Life REVIEW Rise: Race the Future— “rewarding and visually fantastic” Chris Scullion // Nintendo Life
