The battery life on Nintendo’s Switch 2 is fine. Not great by any means, but not awful either. However, if you tend to play more in handheld mode over docked (like myself) then it can sometimes be a sticking point, especially if you find yourself waiting around somewhere with time to kill.
Belkin’s new Charging Case Pro aims to fix that, by integrating a generous 10,000mAh custom-designed battery into a case designed with the Switch 2 in mind. At $99 (£69/€79) it’s in no way the cheapest option for carrying your Switch 2 around, but I reckon the headline feature of a built in battery comes close to justifying the price.
You just dock your Switch 2 directly inside the case and it starts charging. No cables to mess around with. It’s a smart yet simple solution, that in hindsight feels like such an obvious thing to do.
As the video above demonstrates, the built in battery also doubles as a sturdy kickstand for tabletop play. Beyond that it also has a dozen slots for storing your physical games, a pocket for stashing any accessories or cables you want to take with you, and a neat hidden pouch for an AirTag (or similar tracker) — this was a surprise to me, it’s one of those small details that if you do make use of could save you a lot of grief if you ever were to lose this case. Any chance you have to get back what would be an expensive loss is welcome.
Belkin claims that this case can recharge your Switch 2 up to 1.5 times, and in my testing that feels about right.
The Belkin Charging Case Pro is available now in black, sand, and green ‘sage’ colour options — although I’ve been calling it a pistachio green. I’d say if you mostly play docked, this isn’t for you, but if your Switch 2 is your portable of choice this is probably the last case you’ll need. I like it.
