#171: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending March 8.
|
What do you think.
Yo , issue #171 of Switch Weekly here, with your Nintendo news from the past seven days. The Switch celebrated its third anniversary this past week. 🎉 These sort of milestones always get me thinking: I do wonder how long Nintendo will support the console ( for many more years I hope ), and whether the Switch ‘hybrid format’ will stick around when whatever is next turns up. I also pray that any library of games is transferable. Anyway, head is in the clouds with this sorta thinking . 😅 As you might expect, plenty of folks are looking back at the Switch’s first three years – and I’ve stumbled across a few good reads about Breath of the Wild in particular. That game clearly has staying power in people’s minds. I’ve linked up a few pieces looking back in the issue below. Oh, I had plenty of good responses when I asked what your top three all time favourite Nintendo Switch games are . Join in if you haven’t yet. In case you are wondering, the State of Switch survey closed this week . Over 10,000 of you ended up taking part ( thank you ). I’ve been busy working my way through the results, and I originally wanted to have them to share with you today, but in order to do the best job possible I’ve decided to spend a bit more time with it. I’ll be sharing the findings in next week’s issue. I also asked this week on Twitter whether folks were going physical or digital for Animal Crossing: New Horizons . I think, purely because of how frequently I intend to play it, I’ll be going digital. Swapping out the cartridges for 20 minute daily play session doesn’t sound appealing. Anyway, there’s just over 20 games hitting the eShop next week, and as usual the full list is below. Thanks for reading.
Cheers,
REVIEW Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX — Described as “a wonderfully crafted remake of a painfully average game”. Jade King over at Trusted Reviews had similar thoughts, calling it “woefully underbaked” but adding that as “a roguelite dungeon crawler for young players it’s really impressive, but genre purists might be let down” Ford James // Games Radar PREVIEW Animal Crossing: New Horizons — A hands-on preview of the first 45-minutes of island life: “.. looks like the biggest departure for Animal Crossing to date. By shifting the setting to a near-deserted island, the developers at Nintendo have found a premise that lets them play with a well-worn formula while still keeping what works “. Andrew Webster // The Verge Murder by Numbers is like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Professor Layton wrapped up in a 90s sitcom — This murder-mystery puzzler hit the eShop last week and it looks like it may be worth taking a look at: ” Murder by Numbers more than scratched my gumshoe itch. Dripping with style and personality, it really was pure entertainment from start to finish “. If you’d rather see it in action, here’s a look at the first 45 minutes via The Switch Island folks. Heather Wald // Games Radar The True Port Ability of the Switch — We’ve seen plenty of impressive ports land on the Switch over the past three years — here’s a look at what goes into making some of those (such as Dark Souls: Remastered, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and L.A Noire) a reality. Luke Henderson // Maxi Geek REVIEW Wunderling — ” one of those games that I am afraid will get lost in the shuffle of indie titles on the eShop, which would be really sad, because this was just a pure joy “.
