#157: Your Nintendo Update
Your Nintendo digest for the week ending November 24.
|
Six million visit Galar.
Hey , here’s issue #157 of Switch Weekly, with your Nintendo roundup. In last week’s issue I spoke about Sword & Shield and the reaction to the games, both positive and negative. I just wanted to open today’s issue and extend a thanks to those of you who hit reply and shared your thoughts about the games. I’ve found one of the benefits of running this newsletter is that I get to speak to you all in a way which is both considered and direct that you don’t often find in the various comment sections of social media and the wider web. 💌 Anyway, after the blazing trail set by Pokemon, it’s a fairly quiet week. We did see the nominations for this year’s Game Awards go up – so go and place your votes if you haven’t had chance yet. As for me, I’ve been playing some more Ring Fit Adventure ( and working up a sweat – it’s legit! ) and checking out Black Future ’88 ( it came out last week ). You can find a review for that here — I’ll share my thoughts on it when I’ve dug into it some more. Next week, both Pine and Blacksad look interesting, but generally it’s a week lacking in big punchy releases. Oh, and finally a friendly PSA for those of you looking to scratch that retail itch: Black Friday is usually always a good time to grab a cheaper SD card and bump up the memory inside your Switch — so be sure to keep an eye out for deals. Nintendo have plenty of deals on the eShop that are worth a look too!
Thanks for reading, and catch you next week,
P.S. — A big welcome to all new subscribers joining this week, glad to have you with us ! By all means hit reply and let me know what you think of the newsletter, or just let me know what you’re playing. Pokémon Sword & Shield sales surpass 6 million units in the first weekend — Despite all the controversy before launch, but of little surprise really , these two games are doing insane record-breaking numbers. P.S. — Which starter did you choose ? João Carrasqueira // Neowin After several years of waiting, Level-5’s Snack World series finally comes west to Switch — This is Level-5’s ” ambitious new cross-media project ” which spans an anime, toy line, and video game series. It’s out early next year. Chris Carter // Destructoid REVIEW Bee Simulator — ” a surprisingly thoughtful game with bags of charm to spare, a wonderful soundtrack and a reasonably detailed world to explore. However, the experience is seriously soured by the sensitive controls, along with the punishing – and very frustrating – racing segments “. Jason Brown // Nintendo Life REVIEW Narcos: Rise Of The Cartels – Another failed show adaptation — Unlucky Pablo, it looks like this one isn’t reviewing well. ” poor AI, repetitive missions, and bad voice acting will all contribute to dooming this game into obscurity “. Patrick Kobek // The Gamer REVIEW Zumba Burn it Up — For those looking for a workout this is ” a perfectly fine addition to a series that continues to truck along relatively painlessly .” Ollie Reynolds // Nintendo Life REVIEW Stay Cool, Kobayashi-san — ” bare bones and forgettable” . Harrison Milfeld // Pure Nintendo REVIEW Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions John Bush // The Switch Effect A game that fulfills the ultimate fantasy of saying no to everything — Ok, this little game ( Say No! More ) looks really dumb, and I’m totally into it. You play an office intern yelling no at everyone. It’s coming to Switch next year. Nicole Carpenter // Polygon ▶ A Nintendo designer reviews your Super Mario Maker 2 levels — Corey Olcsvary of Nintendo Treehouse plays some user made levels. There’s some really creative stuff here worth checking out – several course IDs are at the link, but if you want my fave, then this ‘computer virus’ level is wildly inventive: M3Y-S8G-SGG . Kyle Orland & Justin Wolfson // Ars Technica ▶ Have you played ’em all? A Pokémon series retrospective — You may want to grab a coffee for this half-hour look back over the series so far.
